Written Summary:

This tape covers Attacks from the Closed Guard and is the 2nd tape of Mario Sperry’s series on Vale Tudo. In typical Sperry fashion he continues to bring us yet another very high quality video on No Rules fighting. Again this tape is not loaded with techniques, I counted only 10 (even less than the Advanced Takedown Video) with a few variations on some of the moves. If your looking for a tape series that has a lot of moves then this is not the series for you however if your looking for good solid techniques that WILL work in a No Rules environment then this tape/series has a lot to offer. As in previous tapes, all of the techniques are not shown just in isolation, but as how they would most likely occur in a fight or no holds barred competition.

It was hard to pick which tape was my personal favorite from the series however I would say that this tape would of been one of my top choices. The tape covers sweeps, turnovers and submissions in relation to the closed guard position. Sperry explains that it is hard to turn over a person that is much bigger than you and that you must be really tight to the person and stresses that timing is very important. Sperry continues where he left off from the first series with the person on the bottom attempting to apply the Americana lock. This time the opponent defends which leads into a really slick turnover to where you have now attained the mount position. I asked myself while first watching this tape, well what if the turnover doesn’t work? Not to worry Sperry’s next move shows just how to deal with such a problem, he simply falls back to the Americana lock. If he can’t quite get the Americana lock then a simple wrist lock is applied. If the turnover is accomplished this can put you in position for a stockade type of neck compression. Let me tell you, this move is PAINFUL and can lead to a quick finish. I have seen this neck stockade used in a previous No Holds Barred fight and it works just beautifully! Sperry also shows a guillotine choke to a turnover which in turn again leads to a stockade type of neck compression. The tape finishes off with a closed guard to a undercook which then can lead into several different armbars.

You can tell that Sperry is always thinking ahead a move or two and not just stuck on getting one submission/technique. This is one of the areas that is so critical to making a great fighter. It is the fighter that can think ahead and flow from one movement to the next that will have the advantage. Sperry does this and more in fine form.

This tape is simply one of the best Closed Guard video’s out there for the No Rules Fighter or for someone interested in self defense. As in all of Sperry’s video’s it is his attention to detail that separates his video’s from many other’s.

As mentioned on the review of the Advanced Takedown tape the only draw back that I could see was the price tag. For 6 video’s (the entire 2nd series) $250.00 is a lot of money. If this series would of been priced at lets say $199.00 (the Carvalho series from WMA is now $199.00 per set) it would of scored 10 out of 10 on the overall grade versus cost. Despite this one negative aspect it is still a great tape. If you have the extra cash BUY IT.

I have viewed this entire series several times over and will state now that all of the tapes in this series will receive a high grading. This is an excellent series for the Vale Tudo type fighter. Both Sperry One and Sperry Two are MUST HAVE tapes if your seriously interested in No Rules/street fighting. Personally I liked Sperry 2 even slightly more than Sperry One.
