Written Summary:
This tape was my personal
favorite of all the video’s in both series one and two. This is fundamental BJJ.
This tape teaches you how to control someone while on top by moving from position
to position. This information can applied to both NHB and sport competition. Sperry
explains that you must know how to control someone before you try a choke, armbar
or leglock. All of the positions are connected and Mario’s move is based upon what
his opponent will attempt to do. For example when in the broken scarf hold position
and a person attempts to turn towards you would transition to the side control position.
Most video’s just show you a random set of armbars or leglocks but this tape really
brings everything together and will greatly a person’s skills. This tape will be
of special benefit to the beginner. The four positions are as follows: broken scarf
hold, side control, reverse scarf hold and the top and bottom position. (actually
there are really 7 positions, 3 on each side & the top & bottom position).
Sperry explains each position in detail stating that you want to control the person
first and wait for a mistake or for your best option. Sperry also shows some the
following techniques on this tape. Keep in mind a lot of the techniques described
may sound familiar but Sperry usually adds some little subtleties that make the techniques
just a little more effective.
1) How to get into the mount position from
the reverse scarf hold
2) How to set up a armbar transitioning from the
side control to the top and bottom position
3) Leg scissor choke again set
up from side control to the top and bottom position.
4) Escapes from the knee
on stomach position by grabbing your opponents trunks from the front and rear and
scooting your hips out.
This tape is excellent and would be of most use to
the beginning student. Advanced students will not get as much from this tape as the
beginner.
