Written Summary:
Mr. Grody introduces
the viewer to some new concepts in Jun Fan trapping such as defending yourself during
a trap and countering an opponent who is trying to trap you. Does something seem
amiss about the previous sentence ? This is supposed to be about fighting, not playing
pattycakes against your opponent's arms and wrists. The material here is academically
interesting and is for those martial artists who like to study things that are of
limited practicality. In my opinion, ( and there are many of us in eclectic real
life fighting martial arts ) trapping hands are overrated when it comes to learning
how to fight in the streets. The material on this tape is very advanced, very complicated
and very pretty to look at. But I just can't buy that the material on this tape is
suitable for a street situation. Oh sure, some people could argue that a few of the
techniques on this tape are street effective, and who knows, maybe they really are.
But I am a martial artist who has actually been in street fights and I can personally
attest to the absence of trapping hands. Sorry folks, but that's the truth. You don't
have the time or the strength to " tan sao " an incoming hook unless you
want to wake up in the middle of tomorrow.
I would recommend this tape to
anyone interested in trapping but with the caveat that once you try these things
out in a full speed spar ( use good headgear ), you will find yourself hit many times
before you can remember " Now which trap did he say I should use in this situa…".
