Written Summary:

This tape is the basic trapping hands material from Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do via the Wing Chun Kung Fu that was learned by Bruce Lee many years ago. While I have no doubt that Bruce Lee was very adept at using trapping hands, I think it is safe to say that most people are not Bruce Lee. Certainly, Mr. Grody is not. I found the material on this tape to be very pretty, very artistic, and based on the way it was shown by Mr. Grody, it would have very questionable value when applied to real fighting in the street. Frankly, in my opinion, if you try to use most of Mr. Grody's stuff against an experienced street fighter, there is a good chance that you will find your teeth rolling down the street like a box of Chiclets.

The material on this tape is the usual basic trapping hands material from Wing Chun. Lop sao (grabbing hands), jut sao (jerking hands), jao sao (running hands), huen sao (circling hands), and pak sao (slapping hands) are introduced here as well as some basic immobilizations and footwork. If you have any Wing Chun or JKD background, then the terminology and the material will be very familiar to you.

All of the techniques performed by Mr. Grody are shown in slow motion. There are two reasons that I can see why this is a good idea on the part of Unique Video. One is that it allows for a good view of what is going on. The second reason is that I seriously doubt that most of these "techniques" could be pulled off in the heat of battle. Considering how fast a boxer or a good karate man can fire punches, you have little to no chance of intercepting the punch, doing a nice neat little trap, and then countering. Like I said earlier, you will be watching your teeth roll away like Chiclets. And that is if you're lucky. This tape is probably a decent purchase if you want to learn some esoteric means of trapping or limb immobilizations. But as far as learning how to fight, via Mr. Grody's material, I would recommend looking somewhere else.
