Written Summary:
Wait just a minute.
This is a filipino tape so where are the sticks and knives ? Not on this tape which
is the first in a series by Steve Grody that deals with the empty hand aspect of
the the filipino martial arts. This tape fills a definite need for some martial artists
who have learned the filipino stick and knife but have never managed to make the
connection between the weapons portions of the FMA and the empty hand portions. Mr.
Grody does a good job of introducing various methods of entries using limb destructions.
There is also some good material on using limb destructions from a defensive standpoint
as well.
The material on this tape is not beginner's level material. Limb
destructions (also called guntings) require much practice before they can be effectively
applied in a street situation. That said however, most of the material on this tape
is worth a look for most martial artists. If a person has no background in the filipino
arts, this tape may be a bit too advanced but that is only the opinion of the reviewer.
Mr. Grody does a good job communicating the subtleties of empty hand filipino fighting
and obviously knows his material very well.
This tape is well produced and
the material is well organized. This tape is a good place to start helping a martial
artist make the connection between filipino weapons training and filipino empty hand
fighting.
