Written Summary:

Another filipino martial arts tape, right ? Wrong, wrong, wrong. I have watched dozens, if not hundreds of tapes, on or related to the filipino martial arts. Put this one at the very top of the stack, folks. Remy Presas IS the filipino martial arts. From what I have seen, all the other guys are vying for second place. Mr. Presas, more than anyone, is the person most responsible for introducing and promoting the filipino martial arts in America. I had always heard he was the king of arnis. After watching this video, I know why.

The content of this video deals with the use of the single stick. However, there is a great deal more shown. There is a tremendous amount of single stick translation to empty hand and some of the best jointlock/takedown segments I have ever seen on video.

Arnis, unlike many martial arts, has depth, depth, and more depth. The only question is how deep do you want to dive. I know some people will watch this video and complain that “ I can’t understand what Mr. Presas is saying “. My response is “ Quit listening and start watching “. Watching a true grandmaster at work is enjoyable on many levels, particularly in this day when there are b.s. grandmasters in many dojos, and at least 10 in every set of yellow pages.

If you have studied arnis at any level, you need to get this video. It will open your eyes and/or reawaken your interest in the filipino martial arts. If the remainder of the tapes in this series are this good, then this may be the standard by which all filipino martial art videos are measured. But in the end, the final product of a martial art is how well does it train you to fight. And if you have ever trained in arnis, you know that you know how to fight. Remy Presas may not be in class by himself. But it sure doesn’t take long to call the roll.
