Written Summary:

Let me say right off that I like Peyton Quinn's style of teaching on the Paladin videos of his that I have seen. He provides a down to earth, " reality based ", low key style, that communicates very well. This tape is a no nonsense approach to using various striking techniques, also known as atemi, to the most vulnerable parts of the human body. This little gem of a video tape is loaded with techniques, but the emphasis is more on the concepts behind the techniques than the techniques themselves. In emphasising his concepts, Mr. Quinn provides the reader a variety of his own quotes, which I found refreshing and enjoyable. I can't really say if this tape will make a person a better martial artist, but it will definitely improve one's ability to fight.

Mr. Quinn covers all the basic striking tools including the vertical fist, the shuto, the hammerfist, the ridgehand, the inverted ridgehand, backfist and elbow strikes. No tape on striking would be complete without a list of targets, and Mr. Quinn gives us a good list of targets to work on. Mr. Quinn shows many great techniques and drills on this tape. I enjoyed his "Rhino Attacks", "Chinese Train Wrecks", and his "Candle Drill ". After viewing this tape, I tried implementing the candle drills and found them to be a fascinating way to judge one's ability to relax when striking. I plan on doing more candle drills in the future. This one drill alone is worth the price of the tape.

One other reason I found this video interesting is that I happen to own Mr. Quinn's underground classic book " A Bouncer's Guide To Barroom Brawling ". While the title may sound like an exercise in macho madness, that it definitely is not. It is a great book dealing with real life scenarios and sound advice on fighting in general. I believe this book is also available from Paladin Press as well. So when it comes to watching a video featuring Peyton Quinn, it would help to have read this book as well.
