Written Summary:

This video is the second in the series from Paladin Press on Knife Fighting For Personal Protection and taught by Kelly Worden. Like the first video in this series, this is a no nonsense look at knife fighting that takes up where the first video leaves off. The material is more advanced than the first tape and is geared towards those viewers who want to take their knife fighting to a higher level.

The video opens with some ideas on solo training. Mr. Worden is using a device called the Silent Fighter which looks like a modified Wing Chun Dummy with padding and movable arms. This is a very interesting training device and Mr. Worden gives the viewer various ideas for using the Silent Fighter ( or anything resembling it ) as a training partner. Mr. Worden gives us one of the best segments I have seen to date on grip switching AND why this can be a very practical thing to learn. Targeting skills are addressed and there is a terrific segment on using the reverse grip vs a knifer using a saber grip. Multiple countering and attack options are shown in this portion. The video then shows three segments that deal with the realities of knife attacks. The first is a narrative by Eugene Allen, a former military man and police man, and his perspective on use of the knife. The second is a narrative from a martial artist who was attacked with a knife and survived. His perspective on knife training is certainly worthwhile to see and hear. The third segment is an interview with an ER physician and his descriptions ( including some very graphic photographs ) are sobering indeed. The video closes with Mr. Worden addressing live blade training with the Silent Fighter and why it is important. Safety issues are thoroughly addressed here and it is recommend to NEVER train with a partner and use live blades ( for obvious reasons ).

This is a terrific video. My only problem with it was that there was not enough of Mr Worden and too much of the “other guy” interviews ( the cop, the ER physician, etc ). The segment on live blade training is a real eye opener. I will probably be adding some padding to my Wing Chun dummy in the future so I can try out some of Mr. Worden’s live blade ideas. If you like the study of knife fighting and how it relates to personal self defense, then this would be a very good purchase.
