Written Summary:

Have you ever met a martial artist instructor who DID NOT claim to teach realistic, street self defense ? EVERY ONE OF THEM will say "Oh yes, we teach realistic self defense, blah blah blah !!! " But we all know that many experienced martial artists, for the most part, do not stand a chance against a good boxer, high school wrestler, or even an experienced street punk. Why is that ? If you really want to know the answer to that question, the answer is on this video.

This video is a continuation of the material found on Panic Attack, Level 1. While volume 1 contains the groundwork for understanding Panic Attack, this volume is where the training gets serious. All of the material on volume 1 finds it's application in this volume. This is where the rubber meets the road. My previous review of Panic Attack, Level 1 was excellent and all of those comments apply equally to this video as well. The Panic Attack is where all the theorizing about fighting meets the hard test of reality. It's quite eye opening and I wish every dojo ballerina in the world could see this video. We get to see students, wearing protective gear, training in realistic street situations with real life assaults. Having done similar training ( but nothing to the degree that Mr. Blauer teaches ), I can state that a person learns more about street fighting in just a few Panic Attacks than in months and months of traditional training.

After a brief introduction about the Panic Attack training, Mr. Blauer introduces the viewer to the Panic Attack protective gear that the students will be wearing. This protective gear appears to give an optimum balance between adequate protection and allowing for natural movement. Students then suit up and begin enacting various scenarios. One student is the " bad guy " while the other student is the intended victim. All of Mr.Blauer's psychological arsenal can be practiced in this scenario training along with the physical tools as well. As the various scenarios are acted out and as the participants launch into their fights, we get to see, once again, the futility of learning how to fight by strictly learning technique. These scenarios seem to bring out the primal defensive responses, the gross motor skills, the instinctive " caveman " stuff. After each scenario, Mr. Blauer gives a brief critique of each one, pointing out both the good and the areas that need improvement. This critiquing is very important because as the founder of Panic Attack, Mr. Blauer, who has seen and experienced thousands of these scenarios, can offer sound advice to improving one's street fighting skill. As Mr. Blauer humorously states " All martial arts training is fake. Mine is just less fake than everyone else's ". Very well said.

I did not count the number of Panic Attack sessions that were on this video but there were quite a few. Some of the participants were females, defending themselves against male attackers. And they all did very well, enough to probably deter the attacker if the protective gear had not been in place. That alone speaks volumes about women learning how to do panic attacks. ( This is not model mugging however, as Mr. Blauer addresses the differences at one point on the video ).

So what do people learn from doing Panic Attacks ? What does the viewer learn from watching this video ? For starters, even if you never do a panic attack, you at least see the uselessness of training technique from static positions. You also get to see how Mr. Blauer's total holistic system fits together ( meaning the fusion of physical and psychological tools ). Many of the basic Chu Fen Do concepts are here including CWCT ( closest weapon, closest target ), verbal diffusion/distractions, overkill mentality, proximity sense training, gross motor skill training, and fear/stress management. I challenge anyone to find all that down at the local karate school. People who have been in a few real fights or have witnessed many real fights know that Mr. Blauer is right on target with this kind of training. The amazing thing, at least to me, is that every serious dojo in the country is not doing similar training. And since they obviously are not, then why not ??

As alway, we give a strong recommendation to this video from Tony Blauer. All of his material that I have seen is right at the top of the street fighting videos. Give him a shot and you won't be disappointed. No one has all the answers. But Tony Blauer is one of the few asking the right questions.
