Written Summary:
How many martial artists
out there know for sure what they have in their arsenal will work for real ? Tony
Blauer knows what works and what does not work for real and one big reason he knows
is because of his Panic Attack training scenarios. Mr. Blauer was one of the first
( and very few to this day ) to seriously address the many flaws in traditional dojo
training. His early Panic Attack videos by Panther were revolutionary to those with
the intelligence and open mindedness to listen to what he was saying. And the beat
goes on . This video is the first in a two part video series that brings us up to
date on the state of Mr. Blauer's Panic Attack as he is teaching it today. As always,
Tony Blauer brings us more in a 2 hour video than anyone else in the martial arts
today. Mr. Blauer's methods and philosophies have matured since his early days with
the Panther video series and he is truly at the top of his teaching game on this
video series.
So what is a Panic Attack training scenario ? It is where you
get to test your skill ( both physical and psychological ) under the stress of a
unrehearsed, full contact street situation. If that sounds appealing to you, then
check out this video series by all means.
Mr. Blauer begins this series with
a long classroom segment where he discusses the merits of Panic Attack training.
There is a lot of open discussion with the classroom students about the use of psychological
as well as physical skills that are learned when doing Panic Attacks. Much of the
material that Mr. Blauer has taught on other videos appears here as well. I would
even say that much of this material is directly applicable to other areas of one's
personal life besides the obvious self defense training. Some of the concepts taught
in this classroom setting are the force contiuum, the " cycle of success ",
the importance of personal directives in one's training, the " government of
self " concept, verbal diffusing skills, submissive strategy, and much more.
It
is futile to try to completely address the wealth of material that exists on all
of Mr. Blauer's videos and this one is no exception. From the classroom setting,
we see students training in a few basic " stun and run " moves followed
by Mr. Blauer teaching a very unique all purpose self defense move called the S.P.E.A.R.
I won't reveal what it is but it is a terrific all purpose move that can be modified
to many different self defense situations. The actual full contact Panic Attack sessions
appear on volume 2 of this series using the equipment designed by Mr. Blauer for
his Panic Attack drills.
As you have may have guessed, I highly recommend
this video ( and volume 2 ) to anyone seriously interested in learning how to defend
themselves. Mr. Blauer does not teach you to defend yourself by teaching techniques.
He teaches concepts which to me is the Holy Grail of martial arts teaching. Once
you see a few Panic Attacks, you will begin to realize the futility of trying to
fight using techniques. And if you are honest with yourself and your own training,
you will have to admit that what Mr. Blauer is teaching is one of the very best holistic
fighting systems in existence today. Do yourself, your family, and/or students and
purchase this video series. If you are an instructor and seriously interested in
pursuing this material even further, I suggest contacting Mr. Blauer personally or
via the web site listed at the top of this page.
