Written Summary: 8 yrs ago we reviewed our first Burrese video. Subsequently he landed at the # 10 spot of our Top 10 favorite videos. Since reviewing that first video of Burrese's, "Hapkido Hoshinsul", we had hoped he would create others. Well he has and this will hopefully be one of several upcoming reviews of additional material he's since produced.
I've typically found that a video instructors sequels rarely exceed the hopes and expectations of this reviewer, however, Burrese succeded. He has organized the material on this dvd methodically via 10 chapters that can be easily accessed. For nearly all the locks shown, Burrese addresses variations, self-defense applications, footwork, and many finer points that are often overlooked by other video instructors for this type of material (such as Sang H Kim's Wrist Locks...being the first that comes to mind that offered little detailed explanation). I almost felt like Burrese has read our reviews, seen what we pointed out as weaknesses in instruction, inferior video direction and production, along with what we do like, and Burrese created this video accordingly. Burrese takes us on a marvelous journey that shows anyone how to grab the wrist numerous ways and easily transition into a variety of locks.
Here's the breakdown of the 10 Chapters:
1. Introduction
2. Explanation of the Wrist - how it can and can't bend
3. Outer Wrist Lock
4. Inner Wrist Lock
5. Overhand Outer Wrist Lock
6. Reverse Handshake Wrist Lock
7. Standing Center Lock (called Sankyo by others) - drills shown for this were excellent!
8. "S" Locks - I kept my fingers crossed Burrese would show closeups of these and he did!
9. Faucet Locks
10. Conclusion
Burrese's material was thorough, yet concise, easy to learn, and had no fluff. In my opinion, this 90 minute video is a tremendous value for what's shown, and is a must-have video for anyone interested in wrist locks. I highly recommend it.
