Written Summary:

This video was my first look at the martial art of Kung Fu San Soo and I was somewhat impressed both by the art and by Mr. Hulsey. Kung Fu San Soo is derived from thousands of years of warrior training in China according to the video and is believed to be just as effective today when dealing with self defense in the street, according to the video.

The video is broken down into a section on defensive techniques and a section on offensive techniques. In both sections, we are treated to a lot of circular motion with the hands, power stances and rapid fire kicking. There is very little jointlocking or groundfighting on this tape. Instead, most of the techniques involve lots ( and I do mean lots ) of hand striking mixed in with some devastating kicks. There is good power in these techniques which you can see in the way Mr. Hulsey sets up to deliver his strikes. Unique combinations of strikes, and combinations of target areas, are seen as well.

As far as how effective this stuff is on the street, I think that it could be effective. Do not be misled however into believing that this material is easy. Mr Hulsey may makes it look easy on video, but one would really have to practice it a great deal before they could combine the same speed and power, as shown by Mr Hulsey.

For a reference point to the readers of this review, this art looks a lot like Chinese Kenpo at times, but really isn't. It is however interesting to watch regardless of one's martial arts background. Who is this video for? I think that intermediate to advanced students would probably derive the most benefit because Mr. Hulsey does not waste time on teaching fundamentals. He assumes that the viewer has some base knowledge of martial art techniques. The techniques on this video are potentially devastating and that alone makes it worth the money if your tastes run to pure
striking skills.
