Career Highlights

Mr. Bloom started his martial arts training in June of 1960 while still in High School. He started training in Shotokan Karate and it remains his favorite style. Through the years he has trained in Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, Chinese Kempo and Tang Soo Do. His major advancements have been in Shotokan first and Tang Soo Do second. He calls himself "A Shotokan martial artist with a Tang Soo Do influence." His first Black Belt promotion was in 1976 under Joe Goss, at the Joe Goss Karate School. At that time, he believed Sensei Goss was a 3rd Degree. In 1977 Mr. Goss changed to Tang Soo Do and in 1979 Mr. Bloom tested for, and received, his 1st Dan in Tang Soo Do under Mr. Goss. Mr. Goss is currently a 7th Dan Master. Mr. Bloom practiced with Mr. Goss until 1985 and then continued his training in Shotokan Karate at various dojos.

In 1991 Mr. Bloom returned to Tang Soo Do at Slezak's Township Karate School and in 1992 tested for, and received, his 1st Dan in that organization. 1995 he tested for, and received. his 3rd Dan in Tang Soo Do under Mr. Slezak. During this time Mr. Bloom was also practicing Shotokan Karate. Mr. Slezak is currently a 5th Dan Master and also once practiced under Master Goss.

In the latter part of 1996 Mr. Bloom started to practice with the Johnstown Karate Club and also taught Shotokan Karate. In April 1997 he tested for, and received, his 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate from Master Hinterliter 8th Dan.

Mr. Bloom, who I've had alot of contact with, is much more than a martial artist, UFS member, or Board Member. I consider him a close personal friend. He has supported UFS in many ways. Not only has been a pillar of strength, but quite often a source of inspiration too. We're very pleased to have him as a Board Member.
