Written Summary:

This video is an introduction to the empty hand fighting system developed by Mr. Hock Hochheim of Lewisville, Texas. And brother, let me tell you, I am impressed. The material presented on this video is the required learning material for Level I ( yellow belt ) students of Mr. Hochheim and there was more practical combat training material on this one level than one will find in the first 4 to 5 levels of some other systems. The yellow belts in this system ( if they learn what is on this video ) will have more fighting skill and savvy than students of much greater rank in many other systems. Once again, I emphasize PRACTICAL. No gi’s, no kata, no bare feet. But very, very practical.

Mr. Hochheim begins the video by contrasting the difference between dojo falling and falling for real outside on the asphalt/gravel/cement surfaces. Open hand strikes are discussed with some training drills shown as well as the use of the lead hand jab and front kick. There are several very intensive looks at the Standing Center Lock and the Head Twist Takedown with detailed explanations as well as 5 to 6 combat applications of each move as well as counters to these two moves. This is NOT a bunch of guys in a studio ripping through a bunch of moves and leaving the viewer to sort everything out. This is detailed explanation of how to correctly perform various moves and how to avoid pitfalls that might short circuit the techniques. Finally, there is an excellent section of combat trapping hands for Level I students. Real combat trapping hands too, and not a bunch of complex, impossible to pull off in a real fight moves.

If this material is typical of what Mr. Hochheim expects from beginning students, then I cannot wait to see what is on the more advanced videos. I strongly recommend this video to anyone interested in learning how to defend themselves on the street. Even though this material is technically designated as beginning level material, fighters/martial artists of any experience level will find the material on this video extremely useful.
