Written Summary:
This video, by Danny
Lane, is clearly aimed at someone who wants to learn about tournament fighting/sparring.
There is a great deal of basic to intermediate level material on this video, including
an decent segment on how to correctly execute various jumping kicks that are commonly
seen in the Korean arts of Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. The video concentrates on
teaching various punching and kicking combinations and also includes some basic linear
footwork as well. I felt the material on this video was presented in a logical, straight
forward manner, and Mr. Lane explained, in good detail, the finer points of each
combination. It's apparent that Mr. Lane is an experienced tournament fighter, and
his instructor, Chuck Norris, makes an appearance at the beginning of this tape.
While
I don't personally believe the material on this tape would be particularly effective
for ALL self defense street situations, it does give some good suggestions on the
tournament aspect of the martial arts, which seems to have a great appeal to many
people. Because of that, I would say this video is definitely suited for the beginning
to intermediate martial artist who aspires to learn "tournament style"
karate. However, this video is definitely not recommended for anyone who is interested
in learning practical, street oriented self defense.
