Environmental Professionals of Florida Inc.

Why should you select your Environmental Professional here?

Florida has long been a national leader in the protection of our valuable natural resources. Unfortunately, the people of Florida have also been the victims of uncounted cases of incompetent environmental consulting. Bad advice has resulted in tremendous economic damages. The private investor often pays a second consultant to correct errors made by the previous one. A government can pass inappropriate regulations or can suffer from improper implementation of good regulations. In either case, the economy as well as the ecology of Florida suffers.

Neither the private nor the public sector has had a reliable standard by which to gauge the potential reliability of their Environmental Professional. Until now.

The Environmental Professionals of Florida was founded to provide not only the standards but to also provide disciplinary procedures for those who fail to meet those standards. These standards are outlined below.

Areas of Practice:

Each Florida Registered Environmental Professional is required to designate their area of practice. In so doing, each one attests that they have obtained an accredited post-secondary degree which has prepared them to offer services within the selected area or areas. In many cases this degree has been further supported by various certifications from professional or scientific associations. This Area of Practice designation does not mean that these professionals cannot offer services beyond these areas, but that they consult with other professionals in order to assure that you receive the most reliable results.

    Education:

Each Florida Registered Environmental Professional has submitted documents indicating their educational background, including advanced degrees. Areas of Practice Registrations are not awarded unless the Professional has earned an appropriate degree. When you obtain a list of our professionals, you will not find business majors offering environmental engineering services.

    Certifications:

Many Florida Registered Environmental Professionals extend their educational credentials by earning certifications offered by scientific or professional associations. In this way, a person educated as a biologist may be eligible for registration as a Systems Manager through certification as a Professional Ecologist, Wetlands Scientist, or Lake Manager. EPF also knows that some certifications are based more on paying the fee than in any real qualifications. EPF recognizes only those with strict criteria. To find out what certifications are recognized, view the abbreviations.

    Florida Experience:

Even with the proper education and certification, not everyone will qualify for registration with EPF. Florida has many unique ecosystems and regulations unparalleled in other states. To effectively advise you on how your project will affect Florida, specific knowledge of Florida is needed. At least two years of experience working in Florida is required for registration.

    Code of Ethics:

EPF knows that just being a master of your science may not be enough to assure that our standards of quality and practice are met. To help assure that only the most reliable Environmental Professionals are registered, we have adopted a code of ethics which all have agreed to follow. This code is straightforward and strict. Our professionals are prohibited from practicing bad science.

The Contractual Relationship and Disciplinary Procedures:

Finally, each of our registered professionals has signed a contract in which they agree to perform to the above standards or risk losing their registration with the EPF. Disciplinary procedures have been developed to protect the innocent from frivolous charges and severely restrict the practice of the incompetent.

This registration service is provided to give you, the consumer of Florida Environmental Professional Services, a degree of assurance that the individual professional or corporation meets certain standards of competence and ethical performance.

Each listed person or corporation has provided EPF with documents detailing their training, education, and experience in their registered Area of Practice. EPF has NOT conducted a background check to make sure that these documents are authentic. Each professional has, however, contractually agreed to abide by our code of ethics and standards of practice. Filing false papers would violate the Code of Ethics and the contract. The registration would be revoked.

Should you ever find one of our registered professionals has failed to provide you with professional service or has violated the Code of Ethics, you are strongly encouraged to contact us. At your request and for a fee, we will conduct a thorough and confidential investigation into the situation and report to you our findings. Should the complaint be verified, the professionals involved may have their status suspended or revoked. Your fee will be held in escrow until the complaint has been examined. Valid complaints will be honored with a refunded fee.
