Harrison Gulch (Knob), Shasta County, California Circa 1896

Dad left us this group photo of "Ladies of Harrison Gulch" and placed an x on my Grandma Enderton's right arm to show who she was.  Below is a detail from the same shot so you can see her face more clearly, as well as a few other Harrison Gulch shots.

The next photo (below) shows Grandma and Grandpa at the wedding of Andrew Jackson Fowler and Clara Sophronia Powers, with the trees and forest in the background. The reverend's name is W.S. Kidder. The wedding took place on June 9, 1896. Andrew Jackson Fowler discovered the Midas Mine in Harrison Gulch in 1895. His father, John Isaac Fowler, had been brought in and developed some of the earlier mines in Harrison Gulch prior to Andrew discovering the Midas Mine. William Herbert Enderton and his wife Olive May [Wise] Enderton were the witnesses. Excerpt from "Trinity Journal" June 20, 1896: "About 75 persons had assembled at the home of the brides parents in Wildwood. As the marriage license was issued in Shasta County, it became necessary to repair to the summit of the mountain one mile distance on the stage road leading from Hayfork to Red Bluff."

The photo is followed by an enlarged detail from the same shot so we may see the bride, groom and witnesses more clearly.    Harrison Gulch, also called Knob, is located in the extreme southwestern arm of Shasta County, California, in the Trinity Mountains, and is the mining camp where Grandpa worked when he married Grandma.

Here's a detail from the shot above:

Finally, below is the only shot I have showing a main building "Harrison House."  I don't think any family are in the shot.  Most of the people shown are miners, I think.  That was the main business of Harrison Gulch.  There still is mining activity in the area.
