Philadelphia Protest

About 25 to 30 people were there for the Philadelphia protest of the actions of Janet Reno and her raid on the Miami home of Elian Gonzalez. Represented were members of FreeRepublic.com, The Philadelphia Campaign For Constitutional Justice, and Cuban Americans (mostly elderly). The FreeRepublic contingent included former Philadelphia congressional candidate Don Adams and his sister, both who were brutally assaulted by Teamsters under the rule of Johnny Morris in 1998. Mr. Cosme Rodriguez, president of the Cuban Community Center, helped to organize the protest. The protest was polite, humble and PEACEFUL.

The setting was in front of the Liberty Bell. There were a few disrupters on hand, one who had made unkind statements to and about the Cuban Americans. Another man stopped to argue the issue of father's rights. Supporters of Elian’s asylum replied this was a FREEDOM issue and then discussed the deplorable economic and human rights conditions in Cuba!!!

Signs were held high and chants of "Free Elian Now!" rang out. Posters including the pictures of the American gestapo snatching Elian with American flags attached. Other signs read:

ELIAN,
CLINTON'S EASTER SACRIFICE

LIBERTY FOR ELIAN,
JUSTICE FOR CASTRO, CLINTON AND RENO

CLINTON SNATCHED GOD'S MIRACLE

JANET RENO GUILTY OF CHILD ABUSE

The local news media from all three stations covered the protest as well as the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The bulk of the protest lasted for two hours though some protested for four hours. It was for an impromtu protest, pretty successful!!!
