USAID has two entry-level Foreign Service career programs, one more junior than the other but both anticipate applicants to live and work overseas for at least 75% of their career and both look for people with specific technical and/or administrative skills. The more senior of the two programs is the New Entry Professional or NEP program. The NEP program hires at the FS 05 and 04 base salary levels (currently between $37,254 and $67,517). The more junior program is the International Development Intern or IDI program and it hires at the FS 06 step 1 base salary level (currently $33,304). Locality pay for 2004 would be included for both positions and for the Washington, DC area that would add 13.43%. Adjustments may be made annually to base salary and locality pay rates.

Applications for either the NEP or IDI programs are accepted for ADVERTISED POSITIONS ONLY and applicants must be U.S. citizens. Applicants must be available for worldwide service.

Announcements, including a description of the position, requirements for the position, application procedures and forms, are posted on our website at: http://www.usaid.gov/

Currently ALL applications for the NEP and IDI programs are received and processed through an automated internet system provided by AVUE Digital Services at http://www.avuedigitalservices.com/usaid/applicant.html .
