Abstract The goal of this work is to determine to what extent the microstructure and properties of H-13 could be controlled and predicted when using the Laser Engineered Net Shape process (LENS). Samples were deposited over a range of processing parameters that could yield fully dense structures. Both micro-hardness and tensile tests were used to determine mechanical behavior. The nature of the thermal cycles required for input into model predictions was obtained for individual passes using embedded thermocouples, while isothermal aging data obtained on LENS deposits was used to obtain carbide coarsening kinetics. These results will be presented along with the analytical model predictions of deposit strength and hardness. (Auth abstract) [References: 13]
