Abstract Three-dimensional photonic crystals with periodic variations in dielectric constants were fabricated by a stereolithographic method of rapid prototyping. The artificial structures composed of millimeter-order epoxy lattices were designed to reflect a millimeter-wave by formation of photonic band gaps in a GHz range. Silica ceramic particles were dispersed into the epoxy to control the dielectric constants of the lattice. The attenuation of transmission amplitude through the photonic crystals was measured as a function of a frequency by using network analyzer. The band gaps were exhibited in the millimeter-wave range.
