Abstract A technique in direct ceramic ink jet printing, which is part of a wider research investigation into solid freeforming of materials, is discussed. One of the principle advantages of solid freeforming is the ability to make a part directly from the a computer aided design in a short time. This technological advance is exploited in the form of rapid prototyping, which enables manufacturing companies to get from design to part more quickly. Direct ceramic ink jet printing is developed to make high quality ceramic components. Solid freeforming is already having significant impact on the way industry works. This looks set to continue with the development of rapid tooling and rapid functional parts. XX
