Abstract Wind tunnel model testing has been used to acquire crucial aerodynamic data and to reduce risk, cost, and time for aircraft flight tests. Cooperatively with Kaman Aerospace Corporation, a team of faculty from the University of Hartford has been designated to investigate various external store jettison tests for the SH-2G helicopter. The objective of this research is to build properly scaled wind tunnel models to simulate full-scale helicopter operation. A 1/17-scale model of the SH-2G and eight different stores were built using stereolithography. In order to dynamically match wind tunnel model geometry, forces, moments and inertia properties to the full-scale helicopter, wind speeds are also used as a design parameter during model scaling. Tungsten was the metal of choice used to match mass properties for each individual store. To simulate store jettison, a radio controlled releasing mechanism has been installed within the SH-2G model. The device will allow stores to be released from inboard and o utboard pylons on the right and left side of the aircraft. Results obtained from this study will allow proper external store model jettison wind tunnel tests and eventually full-scale flight tests to transpire. (Auth abstract) [References: 15] XX
