61. Coming soon: metal rapid prototypes. (DTM Corp.'s selective laser sintering process-based Sinterstation 2000)

Author Victor D. Chase

Source Appliance Manufacturer, Feb 1994 v42 n2 p12(1).

Abstract DTM Corp will introduce its Sinterstation 2000 to produce metal rapid prototypes. The Sinterstation uses the selective laser sintering (SLS) process to create nylon, polycarbonate and wax models that act as investment casting patterns and spray-molds. The SLS process dissects a computer-aided design file to 0.003-0.020 of an inch and sends the data to a laser that directs its light into a part-working envelope made up of a 12-in diameter by 15-in-high cylinder and powdered material which will be made into the solid model.
