Abstract A technology that combines engineering and surgical expertise may be developed outside the U.K. if it does not receive more funding. Ninian Peckitt, a consultant maxillofacial surgeon in Doncaster, U.K., has spent 4 years developing the application of computerized tomography scanners coupled to rapid prototyping (RP) machines and CNC stations. RP and CNC machining of implants are helping to improve recurrence and mortality rates for cancer and facial injury sufferers, but large-scale trials cannot go ahead until local funding is found. XX
