Abstract Part of a special section on titanium. A near-net shape, laser forming approach to producing titanium parts developed by the AeroMet Corporation of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, is discussed. The Lasform process is a laser additive manufacturing process that combines high-power laser cladding technology with advanced rapid prototyping to manufacture complex, fully dense, 3-D components directly from CAD images. The process produces shapes from titanium powder and target plates and is carried out without the cost of molds or dies. XX
