Abstract Urgent Plastic Services of Rochester Hills, Michigan, which specializes in rapid prototyping injection-molded plastic parts, has been working with car manufacturers for some time to provide prototype lighting parts for concept cars and new vehicle models. Company general manager Jeffrey Peterson says that Urgent Plastic Services is now able to render the lenses with production-quality reflex-tooling inserts in about one-third of the normal turnaround time and at a fraction of the costs associated with production tooling. Vehicle stylists and engineers are enthusiastic about this development, as it gives them more time to reexamine and adjust designs before making long-term, high-cost mold and tooling commitments. XX
