Abstract There is a need in all sectors of industry for education and guidance in the use of research and development management (RD&M) technologies. More important was the concern over how the companies could get and apply the RD&M techniques alongside current design and manufacture practice, and in extending current practice to reduce design time. Compounding the knowledge barrier, in many cases, is the shortage of good, cheap CAD tools. There is also a perceived cost barrier to the RD&M technology. If companies were better informed about the benefits of rapid prototyping, they may realize that they cannot afford to be without it if they wish to remain competitive. [References: 7] XX
