Hi-res parts made fast by copier technology

Miniature Knot Sculpture Afit Corp. of Japan [Advanced Future Image Technology] has developed a new method of RP based on electrophotography. This is the technology behind xerography and other photocopying methods. The company claims an X-Y resolution of 50 microns (0.002 in) with a layer thickness of 100 microns (0.004 in). An object with 200 layers, about 20 mm (0.79 in) in height, is said to be possible to fabricate in 50 minutes. The method has been in development for several years and was introduced at a trade show in July for sale in the Japanese market. Afit's name for the process is Pligraphy.
