88. Layered-manufacturing of fiber-reinforced composites.

Author Zak, G. Sela, M. N. Yevko, V.

Source Journal of Manufacturing Science & Engineering. v. 121 no3, Aug. 1999, p. 448-56.

Abstract The author present a rapid manufacturing process for the layered fabrication of polymer-based composite parts using short discontinuous fibers as reinforcements. The process employs a UV-laser-based system for the selective solidification of the composite liquid. The main components of the prototype are a fiber-resin mixing subsystem, a composite-liquid deposition subsystem, a liquid leveling subsystem, and a laser-light delivery subsystem. The design selected for the experimental embodiment of the process was validated using axiomatic design theory. XX
