Abstract The use of uniform droplet sprays is an advanced manufacturing technology for metal production. The application of a continuously variable-diameter jet and a controllable planar jet to rapid prototyping and large-scale aluminum manufacturing processes was studied. In developing the variable-diameter jet, the capability to generate a large range of liquid-jet diameter is needed, and liquid jets of very small diameter are desirable for fine-detailed rapid prototyping. A time-sequenced liquid jet diameter variation with the jet break-up to produce variable droplet size must also be implemented. In the deposition of a planar array of liquid droplets, uniformity in the droplet size and velocity must be verified over a wide range of mass flow rates. [References: 3] XX
