Abstract Rapid prototyping (RP) is used to make dimensionally accurate 3D models directly from computer-aided design files, without using hard tooling, molds or dies. This technology is known as solid freeform fabrication or layered manufacturing. A novel RP technology based on laminated object manufacturing (LOM) has been developed to provide users with an enhanced capability for fabricating structural ceramics and CMC articles. The new curved layer LOM process allows continuous-fiber composites to maintain their fiber continuity in the plane of curvature to achieve optimum mechanical performance. XX
