Abstract This paper reviews the rapid prototyping (RP) techniques being implemented at Daimler-Benz and Ford. Daimler-Benz is resorting to two methods of RP for a particular mockup: laminated object manufacturing and laser sintering stereolithography. These method allows the company to devise process chains ideally adapted to the development task at hand. Ford, meanwhile, is getting a big help from the Actua for verifying new prototyping design. The advantages of the Actua are discussed. XX
