Abstract Four-post rig is proving to be the missing link between physical testing and virtual prototyping as far as characterizing and getting the signature of a car's dynamics are concerned. The rig comprises four hydraulic actuators under each wheel of the test vehicle. It has a 0-40 Hz sine wave capability and has the ability to run tests to a little under 1 m/sec velocity on one or all actuator. The control and measurement system is the 16-bit DSP system. A simple test with four-post rig that usually lasts between 20 and 30 second can reveal tyre stiffness and damping coefficient, the values of the unsprung masses, strut stiffness and damping coefficients. The sprung mass position center of gravity can be estimated and pitch radius of gyration and it can also estimate velocity ratios by measurements using data from the potentiometers fixed the damper and accelerometer measurements.
