31. Shortening of the development time of light metal wheels

Abstract Fatigue testing of prototypes produced on the basis of CAD-data. The development time can be shortened by using a suitable rapid-prototyping system. To set an example for this technique, it will be demonstrated on a light metal wheel. On the rapid-prototyping wheel the stresses will be measured. Areas with high stress can be detected early, and it is possible to eliminate these areas. The fatigue behaviour will be tested with the optimized rapid-prototyping wheel. Simultaneously calculated life time supports the development. The know how one gets by calculating and by fatigue testing of the rapid-prototyping wheel can be realized during production time of tool. Additional development loops are not necessary.
