200. Controlled metal build-up, selective metal sintering is a plus for rapid prototyping.

Author Mapleston, Peter.

Source Modern Plastics. v. 75 no10, Oct. 1998, p. MM&T10.

Abstract Part of a special section on molding and tooling. A new method for building prototypes called Controlled Metal Buildup (CMB) was developed by the Fraunhofer Rapid Prototyping Network, Aachen, Germany. CMB is a layering technique that combines laser generation and high-speed milling to produce a final shape with sharp edges, part accuracy, and a smooth surface. The method can be used for the fully automatic generation of preproduction tools and the repair of tools made by conventional routes. XX
