Abstract Detroit Diesel, the world's largest independent automotive diesel engine producer, designed and built an engine made specifically for pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. The 24-valve, turbocharged, intercooled direct-injection diesel engine generates 157 kW at 4,000 rpm. The engine for the Diesel Engine Light Truck Application program was completed within 228 days of its conception. The quick progress from concept to running vehicle was aided by rapid prototyping. XX
