Abstract Foundries are beginning to appreciate the opportunities provided by rapid prototyping techniques to metal casting. These span from the preparation of single and multiple patterns to the direct construction of molds in the sand casting and investment casting processes. Technical prototypes of metal parts can also be constructed at reasonable costs compared to traditional practice. [References: 7] XX
