Abstract Stereolithography, metal thermal spraying and traditional mold making approaches are being used to rapidly develop an injection mold. The result is expected to give the designer a fast and inexpensive verification of the design very early on in the part design phase of the project. The complex geometry of the valve body together with the processing complexities associated with Long Fiber Reinforced Thermo Plastic (LFRTP) materials form the impetus for the development of this prototype. The objective of this paper is to report on a quick and inexpensive way to produce a mold which would provide enough parts for physical testing and at the same time help verify the flow patterns and through thickness morphology of the part together with processing conditions associated with it.
