1. Laser stereolithography as a new branch in building of models

Author Shepelev, G V.

Abstract The technology of laser stereolithography is described. It is a method for growing three-dimensional models from a liquid fluorine-containing polymer, which selectively polymerizes at the point where laser radiation acts to form a solid layer. Since a laser beam can be focused into a very small spot, the resulting model can be used with almost no additional processing by conventional methods. Technical parameters of laser units used in this method are given. The obvious advantages of this method are: simplicity of dosing the liquid, a lower power consumption for initiating the photochemical reaction compared with that for cutting or sintering, the absence of wastes, and the possibility to obtain small workpieces.
