Abstract Allied Signal Engines has developed a new system in conjunction with 3D Systems Inc to produced rapid metal prototypes at greatly reduced tooling costs. The method is called 'QuickCast' and uses a new type of plastic prototype to create a ceramic mold of the engine part. The 'QuickCast' system is suited for small production runs where tooling costs cannot be recovered by amortization.

*Source*s at Allied Signal estimate that the new prototyping process saves $50,000 and up to 10 weeks over conventional processes. XX
