Abstract By using stereolithography, engineers hoped to design plastic parts of unprecedented intricacy. However, the shortcomings of the available plastic resins limited parts quality. Scientists at AlliedSignal Inc. developed a stereolithography resin that eliminates many shortcomings. The Exactomer 2201 resin also reduces prototyping cycle time and costs. This photocationic vinyl ether offers toughness, minimal distortion. Parts are made one ultrathin layer at a time by exposing photoreactive liquid plastic resin to a laser beam. XX
