Abstract Spiral X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) may be used to examine soft tissue/bony structures during forefoot loading. This data may be visualized with 3D volume rendering or computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, enabling foot structure replication and orthotic device fabrication. Studying 6 cadaver feet with CT, volume rendering, CAD, and rapid prototyping (RP) methods, we found CT-based 3D renderings and CAD models to be accurate (0.8 plus or minus 0.7 mm) and reliable (0.1 plus or minus 0.8 mm).
