Abstract From the design through scheduling to dispatch, knowledge engineering (KE) is everywhere. Some of the most impressive productivity gains KE has made possible are right at the beginning, when the germ of an idea for a product first moves towards reality. Ke relies on pouring the knowledge and experience of those who design, make and run things into a database in the form of a series of rules which can be refined as time goes on. Assembling them is laborious but, once formulated, the rules allow repeated tasks to be accomplished in a fraction of the time they took. Different intelligent computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing tools, which covers every aspect of engineering for design and manufacture are presented. XX
