I am researching my mothers side of the family (EDMONDS). Records show the George Edmonds died prior to Feb. 1782 in Augusta Co., VA as his orphan daughter was given to a John Dalhouse and then returned to her mother less than a year later. In 1792 Ann Edmonds married John Morgan and the bond list her as the daughter of George Edmonds deceased and Nelly FILLIS. Nelly Fillis Edmonds was in Buncombe Co., NC in 1800. My mother always said that she was Dutch-Irish and I had an uncle with the nick name of Dutch.By what books that I have read they have stated that Augusta Co., VA was settled by Scotch-Irish that migrated down from PA. Does anyone have any information on this Nelly Fillis or have you run into any other Phillis/Fillis that married into the Edmonds' line? Any information would be appreciated.

I am in search of a Laura PHILLIS m. Luther WEAVER. I'm guessing they were married 1910-1920. Their children were: Walter, Ivy, Annie, & Olive. I have information that the WEAVER family attended a reunion in Beverly, OH, but I don't know if it was a WEAVER reunion, or a PHILLIS reunion. Anyone with any information regarding this please contact me at weaverdelooh@hotmail.com

Am seeking date of birth and date of marriage info on Elizabeth
Phillis, daughter of Joseph Phillis of Smith twp, Washington Co., PA. Elizabeth was a sister
of Charles Phillis of same Co. location and married Thomas William Cherry there. Am also
seeking info on accurate list of children of these two including birth dates and locations.
I have her birth date abt. 1792 (?).
My great/grandmother, Susannah Cherry was subject of Thomas Cherry's Guardianship prior to
1855 in Guernsey Co. OH. In 1850 census she was living in household of Thomas's wife's
(Elizabeth Phillis) brother's household (Charles Phillis) in same county.
An Elizabeth Phillis was noted on an 1845 marriage license with a David Glass of that
County. I don't know if this is same Elizabeth as other Phillis families had migrated
there from PA. also as well as Cherry families. (Guernsey and Muskingum Co. & others).
Would sure appreciate any info you might have re/this former Elizabeth Phillis. Barry

Guernsey Co. OH. in 1835 and were not shown in
1850 census. Thomas Cherry was listed as former guardian of Susannah b. 1840 and

I am looking for information Sarah Phillis, who married James J. Atkinson. Sarah also may have been married to a Phillips as well as a Schenck. Sarah died either 2/19/1918 or 17. Her children, were born in southern Ohio, Morgan and Hocking counties for at least Sam J. b. February 24, 1864, and Elizabeth b. November 20, 1871. She has at least two brothers, S. H. Phillis and J. M. Phillis.
UPDATE: It now appears that Sarah Phillis is the daughter of James
M. Phillis and Kesiah Elliott. She was born in 1842, and has six brothers and sisters. I
am confused as to why her memorial card listed her surviving brothers as Phillips, instead
of Phillis.
James M. Phillis, the 2nd appears to be the brother listed on the card as James M.
Phillips. Does any one have any ideas as to why the card might show Sarah as a Phillis and
James as a Phillips?

I am researching the PHILLIS surname in my family. Family tradition has them coming from Beaver and Washington Counties in PA to Ohio. In particular, I am interested in one Catherine PHILLIS, b. 1791 (in PA), who was the daughter of Charles PHILLIS (no info). Catherine married Christian HACKATHORN, this is my direct line. Sisters of Catherine PHILLIS include Nancy (RUSSEL), Polly (CAMPBELL) AND Rebecca PHILLIS. Christian HACKATHORN is buried in Carroll Co., OH, but Catherine doesn't appear to be there. I have had little success with this line after years of research. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hollie A. Henke Navarre, OH.
