Rules of Play

Adopted April 17, 2006

(Rev. June 17, 2009)

The following modified USGA rules have been adopted for play by the Club.

SCORING:

1.        Handicaps are maintained and updated monthly by the Handicaps Coordinator using USGA methods.  For new golfers an ECCG handicap index will be developed after a minimum of five rounds of play with ECCG.  Until a new member has received an ECCG handicap, he/she will not participate in games that require an established handicap.  USGA handicaps will not be used for new members because rule modifications used by ECCG render USGA handicaps invalid.

2.         Max score on any hole is triple bogey.   A golfer who on any hole is two (2) strokes over par for that   hole must pick up his/her ball and play NO further on that hole, but must record three (3) over par for       that hole.

3.         Record all individual scores TEE-THRU-GREEN.   For scrambles, see below.

4.         Adjustments may be made by the scorer to get NET Team Scores.

5.         All score cards shall be checked for accuracy by at least two (2) team members, signed, dated, and     turned in to the scorer or handicap chairman at the end of each round.   Golfer’s scorecards shall be            complete and legible with first and last names.

RULES:

1.         Play shall be by USGA (modified) rules.  “Special” rules shall be announced prior to play.

2.         Summer or Winter, Fairway or Rough.  You may roll your ball ONE CLUB LENGTH from your lie    but not from rough to fairway or apron to green.  Same rule applies to SCRAMBLES.

3.         Cart path. From the nearest point take full relief with your stance plus one club length no nearer to          the hole.

4.         Out-of –bounds & lost ball. Take a “one stroke penalty”, drop ball two club lengths no nearer the hole at point ball entered OB or where it was believed to be lost.  Look time for lost ball is a maximum of            “2 minutes”.

5.         Water Hazard marked by “red stakes”.  Drop ball 2 club lengths at point of entry          no nearer the hole         with a 1 stroke penalty.

Water Hazard marked by “yellow stakes”. Drop ball 2 club lengths from point of entry or any    distance inline with pin with a 1 stroke penalty. A ball that crosses the hazard but rolls back into the       hazard “must be played from tee side of the hazard”.  Some courses may have “drop zone”.

YOU MAY PLAY FROM HAZARD BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN YOU MOVE       THE BALL, REMOVE ANY NATURAL ITEM, IMPROVE YOUR STANCE OR GROUND       YOUR CLUB.

6.         Putting:  A player should be given the putt when the ball is within the grip/leather of a putter        measured from the hole to the OUTSIDE of the ball.

7.         Electronic distance measuring devices are permitted during play.

8.         ECCG has a Pace-of-Play and Super Senior Rule.  See following..

SCORING ADDENDUM:

Special scoring for Threesomes

1.         Best Ball Threesomes.   Threesomes may take one (1) mulligan (“Rabbit”) putt on each hole.   The    Rabbit shall be passed to the next player on the next hole.  Once the player rotation is started, the     Rabbit shall be rotated in the same order for the rest of the match.

The Rabbit score shall be recorded on each hole.   However, a player’s low score can only be used      once on a hole, whether it is his own or the Rabbit’s.   Only three (3) scores are to be used on each           hole to determine the low ball’s score.   The mulligan putt can be used on any putt of the Rabbit, but         not on a playing partner’s putt.   Example:   In a two-best ball match, the three scores are: Player No.          1, a 4; Player No. 2, a 5; Player No. 3, a 5.   Player No. 1 Rabbit putt is a 3.   The total two (2) ball        low scores for the is 3 + 5 = 8.

2.         Scramble Threesomes:   In a Scramble, four (4) balls shall be played from the selected best shot of    the three players, each hole, Tee through Green.   The 4th ball shall be played by a “Ghost” player,         Tee through Green.   The Ghost shall be passed to the next player on the next hole.   Once the player        rotation is started the Ghost shall be rotated in the same order for the rest of the match. (It helps to   mark the card of the Ghost for each hole.)   Only one (score) shall be recorded for each hole.

East Cobb Classic Golf Club Super Senior Rule

Adopted April 17, 2006 (Rev. August 30, 2007)

The majority of ECCG members play from the “senior” (men’s front) tees on the various golf courses used by the Club for its outings.  ECCG “super-seniors” have the right to move ahead and use the most forward tees on each golf course. The following provisions spell out the circumstances under which an ECCG member may elect to assume “super-senior” status.

1.      Any ECCG member who has been considered to be a super-senior and has been using the forward tees under the “102 Rule” or due to health/medical reasons prior to December 31, 2005 will continue to have super-senior status, and will continue to use the most forward tees without further election, qualification or limitation.

2.      Any regular (non super-senior) ECCG member, regardless of handicap, whose age is 70 or more may elect to assume super-senior status.  Such election requires that the electing member switch from the senior tees to the most forward tees.  Once made, election to super-senior status may not be changed.

3.      Any election made by an ECCG member pursuant to paragraph #2 may be made only by written or e-mail notification of his intention to:  The ECCG Club Secretary; the ECCG Club Golf Director;  and the ECCG Club Handicap Chairman.   The ECCG Club Secretary shall maintain a list of ECCG members who have assumed super-senior status, whether by “grandfather clause” (paragraph #1, above) or by duly filed written election (paragraph #2, above).

4.      Any ECCG golfer who elects to switch his membership status from regular to super-senior will retain all previous golf scores in the handicap program for purposes of calculating his  handicap until 5 scores are recorded in the ECCG system for the member’s new category, at which time all previous scores will be deleted from the handicap program.  From that point forward, the golfer’s handicap will be based solely on scores recorded using his new membership status.

5.      Any ECCG regular member, regardless of age, may apply to the ECCG Golf Director to be granted immediate super-senior status for reasons of health or medical condition.    A member who has received such permission can request the Golf Director to be returned to regular senior status once their condition is corrected.   This is the only condition that would allow a regular member to change from super-senior to senior status.   The ECCG Golf Director shall deal with each such application on a case-by-case basis.

To print rules: place cursor at beginning sentence (The following modified rules...) and while holding down left mouse button move mouse vertically down to highlight (select) all of the rules - down to the horizontal divider bar at the end. Then click on File (on your browser's menu bar) then click Print on the File menu, and choose "Print Selection" and then click on Print. This will give you approx. 3 pages of just the rules without the webpage menu items and will fit the wording correctly horizontally to your printed pages.
