Beach Music

Songs for Sailing to those Lower Latitudes .

Beach music expresses a love of  the water, sailing, and fun - all in island time. It is a mixture of Caribbean, country, salty lyrics, best enjoyed with margaritas on a beach or boat.

How pleasant the salt anesthetic
Of the air and the sand and the sun;
Leave the earth to the strong and athletic,
And the sea to adventure upon.
Ogden Nash
Add some new favorites. Some great songs by some fine artists. You can order it from CD Baby.  These are original songs by writers on the Sunburn Circuit.

Beach people don't ask for much, they just want to be free.
They dance all night and fish all day, but that's all right with me.
Jerry Diaz, Key West

St. Somewhere is one of my favorites. I love their song Postcard. They are no longer a band, but you can download some of their songs.

The simple things in life are free
Complications cause such grief.
I remember how it ought to be
When havin' money was a pocket full of change
Real fun was getting to play in the rain
How I long for more simplicity.
Brent Burns, Little Grass Hut

Brent Burns wrote and sings ten great outstanding songs on Livin' the Life Jimmy Buffet Wrote About. Yes, Jimmy's last name is misspelled, but the songs are great. The background music for this page is Little Grass Hut. You can order the CD from Amazon.

Sailing life was made for me.
I raise my spinnaker and I'm free.
Eric Stone

Eric Stone provided entertainment at the Strictly Sail New England boatshow in Hartford. He has written some of his own songs, does well with Jimmy's songs, and an outstanding job singing Southern Cross.

I've long for the waters of the warm Caribbean
Between ten and twenty degrees
Those good latitudes are my reason for being
Each time that I feel the breeze
Jerry Diaz, Mike Farris, Key West

Sunny Jim, James White, has four CDs. They have some good music and good lyrics!

tomorrow, tomorrow...
if not today then how tomorrow?
times the one thing you can't borrow
stop your musing, just go cruising, go
raise your sails and go.
Eileen Quinn

Degrees of deviation...

Eileen Quinn is a blue water cruiser. She brings the joys and pains of the cruising life to her songs. I love to listen to the words of her songs. She and her husband sail on Little Gidding, a Bayfield 36. They also have a column in Canadian Yachting magazine.

No significant features...

Some people never find it.
Some only pretend.
But me, I just want to live happily ever after,
every now and then.
Jimmy Buffett

My favorite beach musician is Jimmy Buffett. His music takes me to those little latitudes where there are always gentle breezes, sunshine, and a sandy beach. Margaritaville is where you find it or where you make it.

With a little love and luck you will get by.
Jimmy Buffett

Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.
