Security Zone Setting
Help
Again, as I mentioned on the previous page, since you're using either Outlook Express 6.x, or Microsoft Outlook 2002, your Security Zone setting may not be set correctly to allow the background scroll to work properly. So, to check the Security Zone setting, please follow the steps below specific to the e-mail application you are using. By the way, you can check your setting while you have this window displayed.
Outlook Express 6.x:
Before I forget, the default Security Zone setting for Outlook Express 6.x is the "Restricted sites zone", which, will not allow the background scroll to work properly. So, if you are using the default Security Zone setting and you would like the background scroll to work properly, please follow the steps below to change your Security Zone setting.
- Open up Outlook Express with a left click on the Outlook Express Icon, in your Task Bar next to the Start button or a double left click on the Outlook Express desktop Icon..
- Next, with Outlook Express displayed on you screen, left click on the word "Tools", in the top menu bar. The menu bar that begins with the word "File". This will display the Tools drop down menu.
- Next select "Options..." by moving your cursor down and over the word "Options...", to highlight it, and then select it with a left click. This will display the Options dialog box on your screen.
- Next, left click on the "Security" tab, at the top of the Options dialog box. This will display the Security Options for Outlook Express 6.x, on your screen.
- Next, in the Security Zones section of the Security Options under "Select the Internet Explorer security zone to use:" select the "Internet Zone" by placing your cursor over the radio button just before the words Internet Zone and left click. This will place a dot in the radio button.
- Finally, left click on "OK", in the lower portion, of the Options dialog box. The Options dialog box will disappear leaving you with Outlook Express 6.x displayed on your screen and the security setting set to allow the background scroll to work properly.
Microsoft Outlook 2002:
Microsoft Outlook 2002 blocks all ActiveX controls and plug-ins and all Scripting, no matter which Security Zone setting, "Restricted sites" or "Internet" Zone, is currently in effect. Incidentally, the default Security Zone setting for Microsoft Outlook 2002 is the "Restricted sites" Zone, which, by the way, will not allow the background scroll to work properly; however, with this version of Outlook, the Security Zone setting must be set to the "Restricted sites" Zone for the background scroll work, at all.
- Note: I know this sounds contradictory; however, the reason the "Restricted sites" Security Zone must be in effect is because the menu option "View In Internet Zone", which is listed on the "View" menu when you open up a received message, in the Inbox, will not display unless this Security Zone active.
To check the Security Zone to make certain it's set correctly, please follow the steps below.
- Open up Microsoft Outlook 2002 with either a left click on the Microsoft Outlook Icon, in your Task Bar next to the Start button or a double left click on your Microsoft Outlook 2002 desktop Icon.
- Next, with Microsoft Outlook 2002 displayed on you screen, left click on the word "Tools", in the top menu bar. The menu bar that begins with the word "File". This will display the Tools drop down menu.
- Next select "Options..." by moving your mouse down and over the word "Options...", to highlight it, and select it with a left click. This will display the Options dialog box on your screen.
- Next, left click on the "Security" tab, at the top of the Options dialog box. This will display the Security Options for Microsoft Outlook 2002, on your screen.
- Next, under the "Secure Content" section of the Security Options, select the "Restricted sites" zone, using the drop down menu.
- Finally, left click on "OK", in the lower portion, of the Options dialog box. The Options dialog box will disappear leaving you with Microsoft Outlook 2002 displayed on your screen and the security setting set to the Restricted sites Zone.
