Creating Outlook Stationery
- An Overview -
As was mentioned on the Introduction page the discussion, in this section, centers around using a handy little wizard called the Stationery Setup Wizard to create stationery.
To begin with, on this page, I would like to give you some general information about Outlook Express and the software it uses to both create and edit stationery. Then, on the following page, the Creating Outlook Stationery page, I would like to walk you through the process of locating the Stationery Setup Wizard and an explanation of the wizard's dialog boxes. Finally, I would like to give you an opportunity to create an example piece of stationery using the wizard during the discussion.
General Information
When you create and/or edit a piece of stationery, with Outlook Express, the two pieces of software it uses are the Stationery Setup Wizard and FrontPage Express. The Stationery Setup Wizard is used to create a new piece of stationery while FrontPage Express is used for editing an existing piece of stationery.
The Stationery Setup Wizard: When you click on the Create New... button, in Outlook Express 5.x (or higher), the Stationery Setup Wizard is the software that's used. This little wizard is really a very handy little piece of software and we will be using it to create our basic piece of stationery. When I use the word "basic" in the phrase "basic piece of stationery" I mean stationery without a background scroll and/or music. So, with that in mind, you can do the following with the Stationery Setup Wizard:
- Define the background for the stationery;
- Define the font family and font color for the stationery;
- Define the top and left hand margins for the stationery and;
- Name the stationery.
FrontPage Express: When you click on the "Edit" button, in Outlook Express 5.x (or higher), FrontPage Express, is the software application that's used. Unfortunately, when you use FrontPage Express to edit the stationery the Stationery Setup Wizard creates, for example, adding music or a background scroll, some serious problems arise. I say this because, when you save the stationery, after editing it, the stationery becomes unusable. Therefore, we will not be exploring FrontPage Express here. Instead, we will be using other methods to add music and/or a scrolling background to our stationery example.
Summary
Now that I have explained the software applications Outlook Express 5.x (or higher) uses to create/edit stationery and told you what we will be exploring in this section, we are now ready to start learning how to create some stationery. One more thing, please feel free to open up Outlook Express and the Stationery Setup Wizard, and follow along, as I walk through the process of creating our basic piece of stationery.
