Denis FamilyLast Update: 13 April 2006In October 1871 the Denis family lost their house and contents, barn, and crops in the Great Fire of Northeastern Wisconsin. Frank was Marie's second husband. Marie immigrated aboard the ship "Edisto" in 1856 departing from Goteborg, Belgium and arriving in Boston, Mass on July 17, 1956. She and her first husband, Charles Joseph Stroobants traveled to Wisconsin immidately. I assume that Charles died between 1861 (the birth of their last child) and 1864 (Marie's marriage to Frank Denis). Francois served in the 15th Illinois Infantry during the U.S. Civil War. He was a Private from 24 May 1861 to 1 Sep 1865. The battles and campaigns the 15th Illinois engaged in were: Ft. Donelson, Shiloh, Siege of Corinth, Operatons against Vicksburg [Siege of Vicksburg], March to the Sea, Campaign of the Carolinas [Bentonville]. Research goals: 1. Fill in missing information for Francois and Marie. 2. Fill in missing information for Louisa and Frank. 3. Find Francois' immigration date.
